Digital
Divide Program
Most
of the Communitiesin America are currently experiencing and ever-widening
computer technology gap between those with PC & Internet access
and those without such access (the proverbial "Digital Divide").
This divide is threatening the future of many of our young students,
as we are in a era where PC & Internet literacy is a "must"
for academic and subsequent career success.
We
strongly believe that all students deserve the opportunity to have
full access to a PC & Internet in their homes, which enable
them to improve their academic performance using the vast array
of academic resources found in the power of computer. However, while
much is written and spoken complaining about the Digital Divide,
few efforts have been successful in closing the gap.
The
generally accpted approach has been to focus efforts on better exposing
students to PC & Internet in the school enviroment. Although
this strategy is certainly a step in the right direction, it is
simply inadequate to truly close the gap and reduce technology illteracy
challenege - children need access to PC & Internet in the home,
not just school. Countless studies indicate that learniing
is significantly imporved when unstructured exploration and group
interaction takes place in a timeless environment like the home.
